  • " I am enjoying the exercises so much! It really is not about painting things but rather about seeing things first”
    I.G. New York, Aug 2018
Why take this course?
Realism in surface textures can make such a different to your botanical art. Ever wondered how to make flowers look velvety? Or capture the almost ‘liquid’ shine on some vegetables, leaves and fruit. Discover how to create ‘bloom’ the dusty covering on some fruits and succulents. Very specific techniques which can give stunning results.

Graphite with Impact

Why take this course?
Observing and capturing a full range of tones in your botanical drawings is essential to creating an illusion of 3D and depth.

Your intent may be a shaded drawing as a finished artwork, or a tonal study as preparation for a botanical watercolour. Don’t let nerves about extreme light and dark areas result in flat and lifeless graphite work. Gain confidence and give your drawings impact and wall appeal.

Topics covered will include selecting materials, conveying texture and best practice for smooth continuous tone in graphite.

Why take this course?
Do your darks look lifeless and dull… learn how to make fruits, florals and vegetables shimmer with intriguing hidden colour. Try working ‘wet into damp’ and then finishing with controlled ‘dry brush’. Alternatively learn why and when to build a patchwork of color wash and ‘knit’ them together with darks. Techniques that really work.
