Zoom Schools

VIRTUAL BOTANICAL 'STAYCATIONS'

Study with a community of like-minded people

Creating Botanical Art can be a rather solitary pursuit. In these COVID-19 times particularly it is easy to feel isolated.

Using 'Zoom' as our virtual classroom, dedicated web resources/videos and a private facebook group we can come together as a supportive and friendly community.

Our groups will be limited to 12 with a range of experience levels. Sorry, not suitable for absolute beginners.

How does a 'Zoomschool' work?

My unique 'Zoomschool' format invites you to join group 'zoom' sessions ranging from Q & A's, to presentations and demonstrations.

These 4 Zoom sessions will take place on Mondays and Thursdays always at 5pm GMT/1pm EDT/10am PDT. Each will last 45-60 minutes.

Between our Zoom sessions we will all draw/paint, posting WIP images, queries etc via the facebook group.

Students access a private web area with learning resources and streamed videos. Access to these resources extends for two weeks post Zoomschool.

Constructive feedback will be given via the private facebook group or 1-2-1 via email.

What are the student requirements?

  • Some skills and basic materials for drawing and painting in watercolour to a botanically precise level.
  • The motivation to devote small regular periods to study and practice.
  • A good understanding of English.
  • Access to a computer and a good internet connection.
  • Attendees should be able to download and use Zoom Meeting platform (free). Elaine Searle is not responsible for the technical issues on the attendee’s side.
  • A willingness to use facebook to communicate as a private group
  • Working knowledge of how to take and process a digital image (good quality photo or scan) and post this to a facebook page.
  • An open and sharing attitude to learning.

Zoomschool 1: Nature Table

Capture your nature walks in a 'collection' painting

Botanical artists are usually avid collectors of botanical treasures. Do you return from walks with pockets full of beautiful leaves, seedpods, even pebbles and driftwood?

In this zoomschool I will show you how to capture their textures and earthy colours. Fragile feathers are a joy to paint and not as difficult as they look!.

Sorry this is not suitable for those who are complete beginners in Botanical Art.

Zoomschool 2: Bulbs and Roots

Find beauty hidden underground

Bulbs and roots can be fascinating to draw and paint. Their papery texture and almost irridescent metallic colours come to life when carefully lit.

Let me share with you secrets of how to approach these...some of my favourite winter subjects.

Sorry this is not suitable for those who are complete beginners in Botanical Art.
